Classic movies, true stories of tinseltown. All about classic Hollywood.

Leah Williams from the fabulous blog Cary Grant Won't eat you and facebook site of the same name joins me again to discuss women who love too much in Classic Movies. There are SOOOOOO many but we each got to choose three. We had to be sure the other had watched them. It was so hard to choose only three and which three but we did it. We talk roles by Gene Tierney, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Irene Dunne and Rita Hayworth. It was lots of fun. I want to do another women who love to much and a men who love too much in classic films. There are lots of guys that have been mezmerized by screen dames that are not exactly women you bring home to mother. See if you agree with our choices..

Thanks so much to Leah. She is a very busy woman but she found th time to join me again.

Thanks to listeners. So appreciate it,,

I talked to Steve, a true lover of Classic movies. It was just two huge classic movie buffs yakking away. I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Steve knows his Kay Francis, who I also really love and we talked her movies. Some obscure but always worth a watch to see what fabulous frock Kay would be in. WE chatted a bit about a four time co star of Kays, Ricardo Cortez. Ricardo, real name Jacob Krantz was born in NYC to Austrian immigrants. Ricardo is Steves fave creep of precodes. Mine is Warren William. We also talked Steves top ten of his favorite actresses and bet me mine would not be the same. He was right. We had a couple of the same faves, he had one actress I had never heard of. All in all it was a fun chat with a fellow fan.

Thanks so much to Steve for coming on the show. I felt like we were old pals. I met him on my facebook page I am so happy to have him as a contributor. He always has some fascinating tidbit I never heard of. You can find him there and say hey.. He will also be back on the show. I loved him..

I talked to Karen from the fabulous blog Shadows and Satin. I've been a big fan of hers for a while so I was thrilled to have her on. She covers film noir and precode films. We talked about a couple you just can't miss precodes. We discussed ten movies she just doesn't get, meaning she understands the film but wonders why its a big deal. I agreed with a Loy of her choices. We also discussed the Turner Classic Movie Festival. I was so jealous. Next year if Im around I'm going..It was fun. Karen knows her stuff. Thanks so much for being a guest. I'd love you to come back on.

I was so happy to have my friend Alex Hunter on my show again to see whats been going on in her life. Alex wrote the incredible book..Joi Lansing; A Body To Die For.  A LOVE Story. if you have not read this book I highly recommend it. Alex has a way of making the reader feel like we are living this with her. Its great

We talked some exciting stuff. Alex was invited by a high school to give a lecture to senior students on her book. They loved her. The school is buying six hundred books to be on their curriculum. YAY ALEX! One school down, more to go. We talked her appearances on TV and radio and I pondered if she had gone show biz on me. We discussed the recent death of Tab Hunter and the movie being made about his affair with Anthony Perkins. They would pick up dates/beards and double date but at the end of the night Tab and Tony went off their own as did their dates. I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie. I thought that Joi and Alex story can come at it from two women in love and closeted in the age of flower children and free love. It was NOT THAT free.  you would still be ruined if they found out someone was gay.. I asked how Joy feltt about the big change in films and the 50's and sixty bombshells were not being cast. You had Faye Dunaway, Jane Fonda etc.. She noticed and was very distressed. I asked Alex if she thought it had changed much since classic Hollywood to the fifties to today. She thinks its better but no one should be forced out of closet.

She told me her recent fan shows she's been too. One was in LA and she had a blast. The other one was as Jois partner to celebrate superman. Joi played the man of steels wife. WHO KNEW!! Alex had a great time. I asked her for some juice. She provided. All of a sudden Diva Joan Cllins comes into the room by her space, where she is not pleased to see Bombshell Loni Anderson was in the booth next to her. Queen Joan would have none of that and after some choice words they took Joan away from Lana and she was the entrance not closely to anyone. Once a diva, always a diva.

I really loved having Alex on. She is always fun.Plus she's my pal. Lets get her movie made!!

Thanks to Alex Hunter. Who loves ya baby!!

Thanks so much for tuning in.

I had my dear pal Poseidon from the very funny blog Poseidons Underground as my co-host. We were delighted to have the very busy Kathy Garver, best known as Cissy in Family Affair. Kathy started acting at three years old. She was in some pretty big flicks. She was the double for Pearl, the adorable tyke being menaced by one of my dreamboats Robert Mitchum In Night Of The Hunter Kathy was in the boat scene when they are floating away from their moms murderer and their fiendish stepfather. She told us about her memories of Robert Mitchum, Charles Laughton, who directed this film and never directed again. Also we head what a sweetie Lillian Gish was. It was not well received at the time but today it is considered a great film and that Charles Laughton did a great job. The cinematography

was amazing. Then she told us about her scene in The Bad Seed she did with Shelley Fabares calling Rhoda (Patty McCormick) a murderer. The scene got cut. She was devastated and her mom wisely told her the scene was too good and they did not want them upstaging Rhoda. It worked. After The Bad Seed she played a slave girl in The Ten Commandments and told us about the actors there. We finally got To Family Affair. WE talked Brian Keith AKA as Uncle Beeeyooooo. Sebastian Cabot and the adorable cherubs Buffy and Jody. Poseidon told us he does not write sad stuff but did for Family Affair. We talked the amazing guest stars, Ida Lupino, Myrna Loy (who Knew) and Heather Angel as Mr French's veddy english nanny Miss Haverstraw. I taled to Poseidon on an earlier podcast that the saddest major fiml actor on one of the shows was Dana Andrews. He appeared as a Friend of Beeyooooo and they moppets found out he was in the slammer for a bit for stealing money from his company. The horror part was Buffy and Jody decide to hide their piggy banks from Dana, the thief..Poor Dana had to watch these two kids talking about him as they hide their piggy banks. His face..

Kathy had to leave us after a half an hour so Poseidon and me talked more about some of these things.

I want to thank Kathy Garver for taking time out of her busy squedule to come on the show.

My dear Poseidon for being a great co-host.

I had a great time talking to Leah Williams from the blog Cary Grant Won't EAT YOU.. I love that title. I had read a post she did on Villain Steven Dallas from Stella Dallas. It was a great read and made me want to punch Stevie baby even more. We also talk about Brief Encounter and ask is Dr Alec a sincere sensitive guy or a shyster that has done this kind of thing regularly, the old, my friend lets me use his bachelor pad ploy. Then we move onto Blue Gardenia starring Ann Baxter. Its a fun flick with Raymond Burr playing a lecherous artist. She gets dumped by her soldier boy and ends up at dinner with that swinger Raymond and gets very drunk, much to Raymonds delight. He brings her back to his bachelor pad and tries to make advances on poor Ann. Ann being drunk....but not that drunk....Fights off the brute and here comes the fireplace poker. She is the opposite of cool as a cucumber. Ann Sothern and Richard Conti also star. Theres a funny scene when Richard tosses his little black book to his friend since he won''t need it anymore. Then onto the adorably suave, cool, and very funny William Powell. We both find him to be incredibly dreamy. I'm swooning now.
Thanks so much to Leah for being my guest. It was her first podcast and she was great!! She'll be back.

I talked to Stephen Michael Shearer about his biography on Hedy Lamarr titled Beautiful: The Life Of Hedy Lamarr. Its a really good read. I usually skip a page here and there but I didn't with this book. I was fascinated by her childhood, her life in Vienna, her marriage to the third richest man in Vienna and her story of her escape from him and Vienna. We talked Hedy's six marriages. None lasting or happy. Her incredible inventions and her movie career. They really did not know what to do with her.

Of course being so beautiful and aging were weighing large in her mind. People would meet her and say" You WERE so beautiful. She soon took to getting extensive plastic surgery that was not at all flattering. She also started seeing Dr Feelgood for his amazing B vitamin shots (actually meth) She started acting erratically. She shoplifted, and then she moved to Florida and became a recluse, not even letting her children see her. In 1997 she was finally lauded for her inventions. She never got a penny from them.

This is a very extensive look into Hedy's life. You can also see Stephen on the new Hedy Movie Bombshell. Its available on Netflix.

I want to thank Stephen for being such a great guest. I'm looking forward to talking g to him about other women he wrote about; Gloria Swanson and his friend Patricia Neal.

Thanks to the listeners. You are the best..
