I talked to the wonderful Dayna DeCarlo and Lisa Sanita on their project to get Bill Angelos manuscript made into a book. Bill had access to The Cagney's in their upstate New York home for six weeks. He was going to write a movie on James Cagney life. He got amazing interviews from Jimmy and Jimmys seldom heard wife Bill. They did it. They edited, broke it into chapters and its an amazing documentation of Jimmys early life. The book is Conversations with Cagney: The Early Years By Bill Angelos. I think you'll be surprised to hear who Jimmy wanted to star as himself. He talks his early days in vaudeville. Ending up in California. He talks George Raft, Bogie, Edward G Robinson and a bit of gossip about Edward G's wife Gladys. Find out why Bill D became person non grata at James home. It's a fun read. Whats extra great is that they actually met Jimmy. He was as sweet and down to earth as you imagined him to be. I'm proud to be a Cagnerd. Special props to Stone Wallace for his contribution to the book. I love Stone. His book on George Raft is a goodie.
Much thanks to Lisa and Dayna for coming on the show. You can hear their love and admiration for him shining through. I'd love to have them on again. I had a great time talking to them.
Mostly Thanks to the listeners. You all are great.

I had author and ex tabloid reporter Barbara Sternig on the show. Let me tell you, you can't be a wuss and work for The Enquirer. Her books are Secrets Of A Tabloid Reporter and Celebrity Secrets Of A National Enquirer Reporter. I read them in a weekend. Easy and fun reads. What celebrity and sex symbol slugged Barbara on set, I wanna Know, Who did Barbara peep at through hole in fence to get her story, she got it. She tells us stories about Robert Mitchum, Rory Calhoun, Robert Culp, Richard Burton, a very sweet Tammy Wynette and many more. The National Enquirer was very hated, and the reporters were as well. This is before everyone and his mother has a gossip blog or social media. Give a listen. Lots of good scoops..
Thanks for listening. If you have any Classic Hollywood loving friends tell them to give a
listen.

I talk to John William Law about his book The Moviestar and The Mobster:Lana Turner, Johnny Stompanato, And Murder In The Pink Bedroom. I find this case fascinating and think if its not Hollywoods biggest scandal it' s in the top 5. We discuss Lanas lurid affair with one of Mickey Cohen's low level hoods, Johnny Stompanato. He wooed Lana with flowers and phone calls until she finally agreed to meet him. I'm sure she rued the day. After the meeting they were a couple. After a while Lana found out John Steele was really Johnny Stompanato. She got through that, but did not want Johnny seen as her paramour. She thought people would think he was her paid escort. Johnny would lavish Lana with jewelry and other gifts. He of course used her money to pay for them. Such a romantic guy. They had a tempestuous affair. Lots of yelling, physical brutality and then passionate makeup sex. Lana loved the sense of danger. Lana flew to England to make a movie with Sean Connery and the gossip rags insinuated that Sean and Lana were more then costars, enraging Johnny. I heard he flew out there without Lanas knowledge, but actually Lana paid for his ticket. He stayed in her little cottage then made his way to the set with gun in hand threatening Sean Connery. The English police kicked him out of the country. When Lana got home they went on a trip to Mexico. The nail in Johnnys coffin was when Lana got nominated for best actress for her role in Peyton Place. Her escort was not to be Johnny, they were her daughter Cheryl and Lanas mom. Johnny steamed. They stayed late and went to after partys. The end of this saga is told and its a doozy.
Want to thank John William Law for doing the podcast. You were so great!!
Mostly I want to thank the listeners. Lots of great shows coming up. As a P.S. John has generously offered 4 books as a give a way. The first four people to PM me on my facebook site

Clark Gable and Carole Lombard were two of the twelve of the classic Hollywood people Sara highlighted in her book. We talked Clarks hometown, his two marriages prior to Carole. He basically used them to get him to Hollywood and stay there. Both were 17 years older. We merge to Carole and Clark and talk after Caroles death. After we discuss Clark and Carole we talk Jean Harlow. I love Jeans accent but is it midwestern?? We talk her move to Hollywood with mama Jean. Her stardom, her marriage to Paul Bern, her unhappiness over William Powells stalling on marrying her and of course her tragic death. We then tackle Spencer Tracy. We really don't talk much of the Katherine Hepburn time. Spencer was a very complicated man. He was tortured and when he went on his drunks, he'd disappear for days at a time. I thought he was kind like the character he portrayed in Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde, except for being a vicious killer. I learned a lot about him I never knew. We did talk about Katherine Hepburn and Spencer and the rumors that they were only good friends. We talked a bunch of interesting things and people. I want Sara to come back on and talk about the eight others we didn't get to. They are Jane Wyman, Dorothy Dandridge, Rock Hudson, Jean Seberg, Marilyn Maxwell, Jane Russell, Anne Baxter and Louella Parsons.
Thanks so much to Sara, she knows her classic movies and stars. I had a lot of fun with her. You will like her book a lot. Great read..
Mostly thanks to you listeners. I really appreciate you.

Steve and I had a great time talking movies and his youtube show Tired Old Queen At The Movies.
Steve has been doing the show for ten years. Go check him out. His reviews are smart, funny and helpful. Steve actually knows the words to the awful song the children sing in the classroom scene in The Birds. The song makes me insane and makes me want to do a semi Elvis, no gun, but clicker it off. Steve is a lot of fun and has great knowledge of Classic Films and the wonderful stars of the golden days of Tinseltown. I envy his library of wonderful books about classic Hollywood and its stars.. I know you will love Steve. I did..

The lovely Monika Henreid was such a doll to come on the show. She tells us what it's like growing up as Hollywood royalty, much about her mom and dad and the documentary she is working on "Paul Henreid: Beyond Victor Laszlo...a daughters memoir. She tells us what it was like to star with Bette Davis and be directed by her dad in Dead Ringer. Paul was many things besides being an actor, he was a director, he directed a few movies and loads of television. He directed almost THIRTY episodes of Alfred Hitchcock presents. I love that show. So many great stories. Paul was a loving husband and devoted dad. I wondered when in Now Voyager Bette and Paul blew smoke in each others faces, how one of them didn't choke. I also found out the truth behind the two cigarette in mouth light up. Many folks have taken credit for that. Monika also makes appearances. She's gone to many of The Key Largo movie festivals hosted by Steven Bogart. I saw Steven being interviewed by TCM's Eddie Muller and was surprised at how much his eyes look like his moms. Monika did not notice. Everyone thinks he's like Bogies twin. Somebody please check him out and see if I'm correct. We learn much about Paul and Monika. Also Monika gives you the link to donate money to get her dream project made.
Thanks so much to the lovely Monika for coming on the show. I hope she will come on again when the documentary is completed.
Thanks mostly to the listeners. I have lots of great guests coming up.

I had so much fun talking to David and Tom. They were absolutely adorable. They were a couple teenagers from the midwest that saw the film "Thats Entertainment" and they became fans of all things classic Hollywood. They decided to write the classic stars for interviews. Much to their delight they heard back from Fred Astaire and an interview was set up. They were 18 years old and fresh out of high school. They had to get the money together to fly to L.A.. They got the tickets and decked out in their new suits they were off. They were too young to drive in CA. so they found a cheapo motel that was close enough to Freds to walk and boom, there they were with their idol Fred. Fred was kind, charming, funny and they loved him. Fred opened the doors for talking to other greats"Fred talked to you, I guess its OK." They have wonderful stories on Gene Kelly, Stanley Donen and his then wife Yvette Mimieux, Gregory Peck (swoon), Tippi Hedren, Tan Man George Hamilton, Charlton Heston, Angie Dickinson, Lucille Ball, Andre Previn, Jimmy Cagney, Mickey Rooney, a Hilarios story about lunch with Virginia Mayo and a three hour talk with RJ, alias Robert Wagner. He dished and dished. I'm sure they didn't tell me everything. There are so many interviews we did not get to, like fifty. The book is a joy to read. You will love David and Tom. They also did the last interviews of Stanley Donen, Andre Previn and Mike Connors. I highly recommend the book. It's a must read for classic movie fans.
Thanks so much for Dave and Tom for coming on the show. PS Tom, you don't look like Art Carney..
Mostly thanks to the listeners. I have more great guests coming up.

It's part 2 of my chat with April Vevea about her book Puffblicity and Jayne Mansfield.
This episode deals with the late 50's until her death in 1967 at the age of 34. We talk Jaynes divorce from Mickey Hargitay., her second brief marriage, her horrible meeting with The Beatles, her starring in film and doing nude scenes. I never knew Jaynes playboy spread was the highest selling playboy to this day. The mid sixties are trying times for Jayne as she takes up drinking. She finally goes to small dinner clubs and after one of her shows, she and her posse head to New Orleans, but never make it after the car crashes into a truck and literally goes under it. April fills us in on the truth about her death, was she or wasn't she a Satanist and the final battle of the husbands. Very interesting stuff. Her follow up to Puffblicity covering the sixties will be out very soon.
Again, Thank you to April for coming on the show and being so great.
Mostly thanks to the listeners. I have some great guests coming up.
