I talked to my pal Sloan about movies that show there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Some are from the depression era, WW2, and others various time periods. It was not gloom and doom. I think they are very good films.
We did this at the beginning of pandemic. Me being in the Manhattan terrified me. Sloan too as she is in L.A. I got the virus and fortunately it was not bad enough to have to be hospitalized (thankfully) Not saying it was a walk in the park either. I am much better and am finally putting this out.
Listen to the calming voice of Sloan. Turn down volume when I come on. I admit to drinking wine without food in my stomach so I sounded nasal and horrible. I'm so sorry. I horrified myself. TRUE..I learned my lesson. Voice lessons and no wine.
Sloan is great. She has written two fun and fab books. Really fun reads. She is working on another right as I write.
So thanks a zillion to Sloan for coming on and her patience for me getting this out.
Thanks mostly to the listeners (turn me down)
Be safe!

I talk to author Carl Rollyson on his fab biography on one of my faves and I believe very underrated Dana Andrews. It's called Hollywood Enigma..Dana Andrews. Its a great read.Carl had access to Dana's journals that he wrote for ten years, and much info given to him by Danas Daughter. Find out how sensitive Dana was. He saved love letters, loved his wife and family. Dana was not perfect, he was an alcoholic. His wife filed for divorce to shake Dana up to get help with his drinking. He did. They stayed married. Funny stories about Joan Crawford and Dana. Alice Faye and her big time crush on Dana, while filming Fallen Angel. The tragic death of his youngest son and his one known infidelity. He was a private guy that loved his family, but has his demons.
Thanks so much to Carl for being a great guest.
All about Carl
Mostly Thanks to all the listeners. I have some more great stuff coming up.

I talk to author and friend Stone Wallace on the 5 best gangster films of the 1930's...or at least the ones we thought were. There were so many great ones to choose from. We chose the big movie gangsters, James Cagney, George Raft, Bogie, and Paul Muni. Check to see if you agree with our choices.
As an oops, I called Bogarts character in The Petrified Forest Duke Manatee. I know its Duke Mantee. I guess I was having a wistful moment thinking about those adorable chubby sea creatures the manatees, they are also known as sea cows. Welp. Mantee is not a Manatee.
Thanks so much to Stone Wallace. He sure knows his gangsters, movie and real life.
Thanks most of all to the listeners. I have to post more. I have some ready to go and a couple that need editing. Also greetings to the new listeners that found me. Please be safe in these crazy times. Stay safe and isolate.

Robert talks about Audreys young life before and during The Nazi occupation of The Netherlands. More than anything Audrey loved to dance so her thoughts of dancing helped her through the hunger and the horror. Audrey actually danced and was given money which she promptly gave to The Resistance. Learn about her hunger, her Nazi sympathizers parents. Her father was held in a jail in England during the war. He later was exiled to Ireland which like Switzerland was neutral. Her mother met Hitler and was like a giddy schoolgirl. She kept her autographed gold frame photo of she and Hitler til the end of her life. In the beginning days of the takeover of the Netherlands her mother had a nazi boyfriend. She allegedly stopped in 1942 being a sweetheart to the Nazi's. Audrey loved her parents but was horrified as well.
As an adult Audrey did not talk much about her days in World War 11. She would always remember a specific act of the Nazi's that was perpetrated against her uncle and 4 more innocent men. Audrey also lent her help to the United Nations. Her last trip to Somalia had been very hard on her. Soon Audrey was diagnosed with cancer and died. She was an amazing woman and Robert captures her life so vividly.
Thanks so much To Robert. He is a wonderful guest.
Thanks mostly to you, the listeners. You are the best.

I talk to Author Dan Van Neste about his book, They Coulda Been Contenders:Twelve Actors That Should've Been Cinematic Superstars. Dan picks twelve shoulda's and coulda's. Included the wonderful Zachary Scott best known as Monte Berigon in Mildred Pierce, Marian Marsh, Gloria Stewart, who had a comeback at 86 in The Titanic, John Hodiak best known for Alfred Hitchcocks, Lifeboat. We discuss his marriage to Anne Baxter and his tragic early death and so much more. Dan also got to interview many of those profiled and we get to know some really great behind the scenes stuff. I enjoyed Dan thoroughly as I did his book.
Thanks so much to Dan for coming on the show. He was great. Mostly thanks to you for listening. You are the best.

In this podcast John Dileo and I chose movies for anti Valentines Day. Ones that will not make you feel bad if you are watching alone, or worse, with someone you'd rather not be with. We both love Romance and wonderful classic Romance movies, but since I was a kid I hated how just one day a year could make people feel rotten if they don't have their Clark Gable or Ava Gardner..Or even John T Doe. It's a day where we must be consumed with cards, triple the rate flowers and heart shaped candy that is probably from last year. I have celebrated V day, but only because the people I was with wanted me to. But I always insisted on low key and they'd get Hershey's kisses the next day. I believe if you are in love every day is Valentines day. Not just this industry made day to make people feel like crap. So know there are others that think of it as just a day. There are others on social media that you should just pass on by because they present a perfect package of, 'look we are so in love, and we're cute and he's drinking champagne out of my shoe'...take heart, they will probably break up in a week. Be good to yourself. Happy UnValentines Day. Also Happy Valentines day to those who actually Love it..
Thanks so much to the very knowledgeable and fun John DiLeo. He always makes great choices and me laugh.
Mostly thanks to the listeners. I so appreciate you.
