April VeVea and I talk the life and death of Sharon Tate...
Saturday Nov 23, 2019
Saturday Nov 23, 2019
We discuss Sharon Tates life and loves, and her film career as short as it was. We discuss her relationship with Jay Sebring and her tumultuous marriage with Roman Polanski. Sharon was so incredibly beautiful, Elizabeth Taylor and Kim Novak refused to work with her. Of course we discuss Sharon's death by the Manson Family. Sharon was 8 months pregnant when she died. The murder of Sharon and the others was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. So heartbreaking. Hopefully you get to know Sharon a little bit more than you did before.
Thanks so much to my classic movie blonde expert April VeVea
Mostly thanks to the listeners. You all are the best!

I had a great time dishing with Hollywood Historian, Author and all around cool chick Laurie Jacobson, We talked Scandals, Timmy's In The Well, which is a memoir by Jon Provost and co written by Laurie who BTW happens to be Jons wife. There is news you may not have wanted to know about Lassie, Natalie Woods last night, her take on the night Paul Bern died and much more. Her book Dishing Hollywood, after each chapter gives a recipe. Laurie has a very unique style of writing that is humorous but real. It was a lot of fun.
I want to thank Laurie for coming on the show. Hopefully she'll be on again soon.
Mostly thanks to the listeners. You are the best!

I talk to author Sloan De Forest about her book Must See Sci Fi. WE had a lot of fun discussing sci-fi movies starting from the first one til some in the sixties and one from the seventies. We talk The Blob, the blobathon, blobmania, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Invasion of The Body Snatchers (the original) THEM!!! starring Kris Kringle, Edmund Gwenn and those giant ants. We also discuss The Thing From Outer Space, and how much we like the romance part of the movie. It all works. We discuss Russell Johnson AKA as The Professor in Gilligans Island, and The Thing From Another World. We find we both thought he was quite the looker. We also discuss Planet Of The Apes, Rod Serling providing the twist ending, Logan's Run and their Toga's provided by Frederics Of Hollywood and so much more. I was delighted to find another woman that talks classic sc-fi and we don't wear pocket protectors..I had a lot of fun.
Thanks so much to Sloan. She was really great..

Yes, It's that time again. It's my second annual spooktacular Halloween show. Today I have The Ghost Guy, Tom Ogden and we discuss Haunted Hollywood. There seems to be a whole population of ghosts haunting their old stomping grounds. We discuss ghostly sightings of Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift, Haunted Hotels, Clifton Webb, Peg Entwistle AKA The Hollywood sign girl and much more. I asked Tom a question that has puzzled me since the beginning, after being haunted by my sheet covered brothers and them saying boo. Why Boo?? Tom wasn't sure but he googled it for me. I'll link you to an answer. THere's gotta be more..
I hope you enjoy this podcast and my final sppoktacular until next year.
Thanks much to Tom Ogden. He was a fun guest.
Thanks mostly to my listeners. I may have some news coming up about the podcast. Fingers crossed.

Leah and I discuss four movie damsels in distress. No, none were tied to railroad tracks, but they were damsels none the less. Poor Paula, played by Ingrid Bergman is having some major trouble with her mysterious dreamboat in Gaslight. Next we discuss Mary, played by Loretta Young, who's new husband may be a NAHHHHHHtttzee (that's how Loretta pronounces Nazi. Orson Welles plays the dastardly fiend. Will Nazi hunter Edward G Robinson save the day..The ending is absolutely ridiculous. Our next Damsel is Mae Clark as Myra in the 1931 version of Waterloo Bridge. Myra worked in shows during WW1 but her show closes and she finds nothing else so she becomes a prostitute. One night during an air raid she meets a nice American guy that came to Europe to fight in the war, He buys some fish and chips and Myra brings him home. Its all above board and Douglass Montgomery, who plays Roy is so sweet and adorable, falls in love with Myra. He has no clue that she is a member of the worlds oldest profession. Eventually he finds out what Myra is but asks her to marry him. Myra has fallen in love, but she knows its not to be.She is not being terrorized by a man, but the war. Look for a young Bette Davis in a very small role as Roy's sister. I like this version and also the 1940 version. Our final damsel is Barbara Stanwyck in Sorry Wrong Number. Barbara plays Leona Stevenson, a spoiled rich girl/woman that falls for Burt Lancaster, as Henry Stevenson. Leona gets attacks when something doesn't go her way. She believes she has heart trouble. She ends up staying in bed. Leona hears two men talking about a murder and tries to get the police to help. They are sure, lady. We go through Leona's very bad day, with plenty of flashbacks. Yes, Leona was not a nice person but she was still a damsel. There are total spoilers so if you've never seen these films be warned..
Thanks so much to Leah. I love her perspective on the films and damsels.
Thanks mostly to the listeners, you are so great..

I had such fun talking to Jeff. He was so much fun. We talk about many performers dying onstage. Dick Shawn and Tiny Tim were members of the club. I asked Jeff if he would want to die onstage. I thought would I. The answers vary. This is a fun (if morbid...I love morbid) podcast. You will learn the most dangerous showbiz job, magicians can be a little cray cray and so much more. Jeff was a delight. I realized in the middle of taping that this could be a spooktacular..Poor Jeff must have thought I lost my mind when I said "It's a spooktacular and id my pitiful imitation of ghosts.
The book is a great read.
Jeff has a website I highly recommend you going to. They have so much great info.
Thanks so much to Jeff for being such a great guest and not hanging up when I start the spooktacular stuff.
Thanks mostly to my listeners. I may have some exciting news coming up. Fingers crossed.

William Wellman was an amazing director, feisty and yes, wild. His movie Wings won the first best picture Oscar in 1927. We talk his young pilot days in WW1, his making his way to Hollywood, first doing a bit part in a silent film, then becoming an amazing director of such classics as Public Enemy, he was the Oscar-winning screenwriter-director of the original Star Is Born (1937), Night Nurse, Heroes For Sale, which he cast his own wife as the tomboy on the road during the depression, The Ox Bow Incident, Nothing Sacred, G.I. Joe and so many more. He could direct comedies, drama, war movies and westerns. I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed his films. Many were precode. He had a tempestuous love life being married 4 times before he met his fifth and final wife Dorothy. They had SEVEN kids. His Homelife was stable but Wild bill often butted heads with the studio, the producers, the actors and whoever else might have angered him. He wanted truth in his films, he achieved it. He was also fiercely loyal of his crew and would step up to the plate for them many times. Find out who his favorite actress was and a couple of the stars that shunned Bill Jr. Bill Jr tells a secret his father had held in since WW1. This was told when they revisited some of the places Wellman remembered. He retired and lived a happy family life until his death. This is an info filled podcast of an amazing man that lived life, a bit hard at times and an amazing writer/director.
Thanks so much to Bill for giving me his time. I highly recommend his book. It took Bill 8 years to write and its wonderful.

Also catch the documentary tribute to his dad. I enjoyed it immensely. Many of the actors that worked with WW had lots to say. He certainly was a rebel and a character. You can catch it on youtube
